Can I mount drawer slides on the bottom?
In order for the mounting screws to hold, you’ll need to make your drawer bottoms 1⁄ 2 ” thick, or add a spacer—shown on the bottom drawer on slide 1—if using thinner bottoms. Most bottom-mount slides are 3⁄ 8 ” thick, but leave 5⁄ 16 ” under your drawer bottom for mounting.
What is the difference between undermount and side mount drawer slides?
Side mounts stick out on drawers and interrupt the flow. When you open and close a drawer with undermount glides, you can feel the quality. Even though side mount glides are quiet and smooth when they open, undermount drawer glides take it to a new level.
How much weight can undermount drawer slides hold?
Most drawer slides are rated at 75, 100, or 150 pounds. However, some ball-bearing slides can hold up to a 500-pound load.
Can you use drawer slides vertically?
DON’T use a regular ball bearing slide. Traditional slides, like the Accuride 3832E Light-Duty, are meant to be “side-mounted”. Vertically mounting these types of slides, and placing a load onto them, risks bending and breaking the slides. So don’t do it!
Are undermount drawer slides easier to install?

Undermount slides have very specific allowance requirements. Make sure to check the spec sheet for the slide chosen. The width of the drawer will depend on slide chosen and the side-to-side clearance needed for that slide. Side-to-side allowances range from 3/8″ overall to 1/2″ overall, depending on series chosen.
