What size vent does a range hood need?
The minimum duct size for a range hood is 4”, which is ideal for range hoods 400 CFM and under. The higher the cubic feet per minute, the larger the duct you’ll need. At 600 CFM, the minimum duct size is 6”. At 900 CFM, the minimum duct size is 8”.
How do you size a vent hood?
Width: When possible, size the hood 6” larger in width than the cooktop. For example, if you have a 30-inch cooktop, the size of your range hood should be 36″ inches. Depth: Most range hoods come in 22-27” depths with some range hoods being 30” deep.
