What is the primary seal gas?
Purpose of these seals is to prevent leakage of highly hazardous gas to atmosphere. Usually primary seal fluid will be operation gas (mixes with operation) and secondary seal will have nitrogen (inert gas) that goes to flare taking away any traces of leakage in primary seal.
What is seal gas panel?
A Cobey Gas Seal Panel is designed to supply seal buffer gas to the shaft seals of various rotating compressors, providing containment of these process gases. The panel includes filters, pressure/flow control valves and various instruments to condition, control, and monitor the gas into and out of the dry gas seals.
What is dry gas seal hang up?
It is common for dry gas seals to exhibit excessive leakage to the primary vent immediately on startup after extended periods of compressor downtime. This condition, known as hang up, occurs when the balance diameter o-ring “sticks” to its mating (sliding) surface because of friction.
Why is gas seal dry?
Dry gas seals use a separation seal on the bearing side of the seal as a barrier. The purpose of the barrier seal is to prevent lubricating oil from migrating along the shaft and into the dry gas seal. This seal also prevents any gas leakage from the dry gas seal from leaking into the bearing cavity.
What is dry gas seal in compressor?
Dry gas seals are basically mechanical face seals, consisting of a mating (rotating) ring and a primary (stationary) ring (Fig. A sealing gas is injected into the seal, providing the working fluid for the running gap and the seal between the atmosphere or flare system and the compressor internal process gas.
What is barrier seal in compressor?
A barrier seal is required on the outboard side of the dry gas seal, between the gas seal and the compressor bearing. The primary function of the barrier seal, typically buffered with air or nitrogen, is to prohibit the flow of bearing lubrication oil into the gas seal.
Does nitrogen keep food fresh?
Nitrogen replaces the oxygen in a food storage bag, and it cushions the contents. Unlike oxygen, nitrogen doesn’t react with foods or affect the flavor or texture, so they stay fresher longer.
Does nitrogen gas keep food fresh?
Because it is a safe, inert gas, nitrogen is an excellent replacement for oxygen or supplemental gas in food packaging and manufacturing. Increased nitrogen preserves freshness, protects the nutrients, and prevents aerobic microbial growth.
Where are dry gas seals used?
Dry gas seals are mechanical seals but use other chemicals and functions so that they do not contaminate a process. These seals are typically used in a harsh working environment such as oil exploration, extraction and refining, petrochemical industries, gas transmission and chemical processing.
How does the oil seal in a centrifugal compressor work?
Centrifugal Compressor Wet Seals High pressure seal oil circulates between rings around the compressor shaft Oil absorbs the gas on the inboard side Little gas leaks through the oil seal Seal oil degassing vents methane to the atmosphere Source: PEMEX
Can a gas compressor mix with seal oil?
Gas compressors that operate with Hydrogen sulphide (H2S) in the process gas should not be allowed to mix with seal oil. When gas contains H2S, it is referred to as Sour gas. However H2S is a poison that not only contaminates seal oil but can also be lethal at higher concentrations.
How does the high pressure seal oil work?
High pressure seal oil circulates between rings around the compressor shaft Oil absorbs the gas on the inboard side Little gas leaks through the oil seal Seal oil degassing vents methane to the atmosphere Source: PEMEX
Where is the process gas in a compressor?
The drawing on Page 2 shows a section of the compressor shaft, which rotates and the seal and seal housing, which are stationary. The process gas is in the area to the left of the drawing and the atmosphere is in the area to the right of the drawing. The color coding is as follows:
