Why is Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park closed?
UPDATE (February 10, 2021) – Much of this park is closed due hazardous conditions caused by the Dolan Fire and recent debris flows from heavy rains. The parking lot, restroom, Waterfall Overlook Trail and Partington Cove Trail are open. These areas contain numerous compromised trees and trail hazards.

How do you get to Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park?
To get to the trailhead: From Ragged Point, drive 37.2 miles north on Highway One to the well marked Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park (60 miles north of Cambria). The park is 8.1 miles south of Nepenthe Restaurant in Big Sur.
Can you walk down to McWay Falls?
2) Can you actually hike down to McWay Falls? Unfortunately it is illegal to go down there. The reason why is because of the many dangers including deaths that have happened from people trying to do that. There is no road or path that leads down there and you would literally be risking your life to scale down there.

The Purple Sand Realize that not ALL the sand on the beach at Pfeiffer is purple. There are patches generally along the northern part of the beach. It comes from manganese garnet in the hills being eroded and washed down the creek to the beach. You are more likely to see the purple sand after winter storms.
