Do you need to bleed a water heater?
Bleeding the line on the water heater removes trapped air and the mineral deposits that can affect the water heater’s ability to heat water. You should consider bleeding the line on the water heater at least twice, if not more, each year if your home uses a well-water system.
How do you get air out of plumbing lines?
Work in a clockwise manner from the main water supply throughout the house. Open each hot and cold water faucet a half turn to let air and water escape. Repeat this process for toilets, showers, tubs, the washing machine and dishwasher. By turning on these fixtures and appliances, it pulls the air out of the lines.
Is there a way to bleed the air out of a hot water heater?
If there is a lot of air in the system it will take some time but eventually it will remove all the air. They do fail so keep an eye on them and change them every few years. The manual bleed is much less complicated but requires you to go bleed off the air by turning the valve and letting the air escape until water comes out.
How to bleed air from the cooling system?
To bleed the cooling system: Fill the expansion bottle with a mixture of coolant and water. Keep the cap off. Turn on your car and let it idle. Squeeze the top radiator hose until no more bubbles appear in the expansion bottle. It’s better to do this when the car is warm and the thermostat is open, thus allowing the water to circulate.

Can a bleeder be installed on an inline hot water heater?
It’s not ideal but if the air can circulate through the system, it will over time will eventually end up at the automatic bleeder if it was installed inline as there is just enough room in them to accumulate the air.
