If you use plumber’s Teflon tape on gas pipe fittings, the tape will degrade over time and gas vapors will escape from the fitting. Plumber’s Teflon is white in color and thinner than yellow gas-rated Teflon tape. Leaking gas pipes and fittings are dangerous and can cause an explosion.
Is it OK to use plumbers putty on granite?
Get a new tub of putty. Keep the tub of putty sealed so the putty will last as long as possible before getting hard. It does dry out in the tub, but this can take years. Read the label of the plumber’s putty before using it on porous surfaces. Plumber’s putty is petroleum-based and can stain some materials, such as granite.
What do you put on a gas line fitting to stop a leak?
After applying the tape, connecting your gas lines and turning the gas back on, mix 2 teaspoons dishwashing liquid and 1 cup of water in a pot. Dip a cloth or rag in the soap solution and swab the solution on the gas fitting. If you see bubbles forming on the fitting, you have a gas leak.
