Can you put Drylock over mold?
Yes, using a good quality 100% acrylic latex paint. DRYLOK® Masonry Waterproofer can also be tinted for a decorative finished coat.
Will Drylok kill mold?
While Drylok is designed to prevent water from penetrating through foundation walls, it will not remove existing mold or mildew. Simply ignoring the problem and painting straight over it is not recommended as it can only prevent further fungus from growing.
Can I use Drylok on damp walls?
DryLok is a useful coating which can be painted onto wet basement walls to protect them from damage. DRYLOK® Extreme Masonry Waterproofer may be applied on a slightly damp surface, but best results are obtained when the surface is dry, clean and free of grease, oil, form-release compound, and paint.
Should I use Drylok in my basement?
DO NOT PAINT YOUR WALLS, even with Drylok or waterproofing paint. Also, do not attach insulation directly to the foundation walls. It behaves as a moisture trap and can also hide structural problems and cracks in the foundation. Bottom line: basement walls need to breathe too.

Why does drylok stay on for so long?
And because Drylok is used on basement foundations, there is always a constant stream of moisture flowing through the walls to keep the mold growing at a rapid pace. Their brochures are partially correct – ordinary paint WILL get forced off with any water seepage and Drylock WILL stay on a bit longer but it does something else – it cracks!
What are the disadvantages of waterproofing with drylock?
This “fix” can be an inefficient method to protect against moisture and could even lead to mold growth. In some cases the moisture will force its way through the cement and the Drylock and cause flaking of the product – similar to paint cracking and flaking.
