Can you use fuel hose for transmission cooling lines?
Fuel line hose isn’t up to the pressures normally associated with automatic transmissions. Use the proper stuff. If that thing splits or blows loose and hoses down any portion of your exhaust system hot enough to ignite it, your truck could end up burned to the ground.
Can I use compression fittings on transmission cooler lines?
P.S. Compression fittings on trans cooler lines should be fine, but then, adding a bit of hose and clamps would also work well, and be easier.
Can you use copper tubing for transmission cooling lines?
Copper will work fine. There is no problem with dissimilar metals at the fittings either…but if worried just use brass fittings. , copper is often used to replace corroded fuel and transmission lines. NOT on brake lines though as North American copper tube isn’t rated for the line pressure.
Can you repair a transmission cooler line?
Like all parts of an engine, transmission cooling lines can wear out. If they break or develop a leak, you will lose transmission fluid, leaving your car vulnerable. Thankfully this is a fairly simple fix, and most transmission line repairs cost between $100 and $500 dollars.
What can I use for transmission cooler lines?
Rubber transmission lines are readily available and are the cheapest option for transmission cooler lines. More often than not, your vehicle will have some rubber lines from the factory, but not nearly as much as it would metal.
How much pressure should be on a transmission cooler line?
there is at idle between 20-50 psi but during use pressures in transmission lines can reach 100 psi or more. if you are going to use rubber lines be sure to use barbed fittings so the hose does not blow off. Cooler and lube pressure are about the same at 5-30 psi.
Are compression fittings good for fuel lines?
Double flare tubing compression fittings are safe to use on fuel and hydraulic lines. Compression fittings are the perfect choice for high pressure applications. In combination with a high pressure tubing material like steel, large compression fittings can often be used at pressures in excess of 10,000 psig.
Can you use compression fittings on steel tubing?
Compression fittings are not recommended to be used with steel tube. When using compression fittings with any type of plastic tubing, a brass insert must be used for further support. Compression fittings come in a variety of sizes and part numbers.
Can you use rubber for transmission lines?
You can use rubber hose, but make sure it’s transmission cooler line rated. The pressure is quite low (12-15 psi). Double clamp it or use FI type clamps instead of the worm-drive style.
When should transmission cooler lines be replaced?
Once it starts releasing a lot of liquid, exudes burnt smell and approaches complete malfunction, it will have already brought substantial damage to the transmission. Thus, once you notice minor issues with the cooler lines, it is best to replace them right away.
Do you need rubber ends for transmission coolant lines?
squirrel Member. from Sierra Vista AZ. The only time you need rubber ends is if you have an add on type trans cooler, most are designed to work with rubber hose. If you are just using the radiator’s built in trans cooler, then yes you should run just steel line to it.
How to use rubber hose for trans cooler line repair?
A better way to do it, is to get a 5/16″ fitting that has a barbed end, and a compression fitting on the other end. Cut your old lines in an easy area to get to, use a tubing cutter, slip on the compression fitting, and tighten it, then slide your rubber hose over the barbed end & clamp it on.
What are the fittings for a transmission cooler?
These fittings are a push fit type that allow for a standard hose clamp to keep the transmission line in place. When it comes to installing an aftermarket trans cooler, barb fittings can be used on the radiator transmission fluid outlet for rubber hose to run to the cooler.
Can a rubber line be used for trans fluid?
Trans fluid & regular rubber fuel line aren’t compatible, as it will swell it & leak. If I have to use any hose on the transmission line, I usually flare the steel line before I slip on the rubber hose, it helps to keep the hose from blowing off.
