A basic four-function on-screen calculator will be provided for examinees taking Multiple Subjects Subtest II: Science; Mathematics. You may not bring your own calculator for CSET: Multiple Subjects Subtest II.

Is the Math CSET hard?

The CSET Math is well known for being a difficult test. The CSET Math Single Subject is known for difficult and even tricky test questions. These tests could easily rattle a well prepared test taker. In particular, the Single Subject Math subtests I and II are known to have a high failure rate.

Are you allowed to use a calculator on the math test?

Examinees may use any 4-function, scientific, or graphing calculator, as long as it is not on the prohibited list and it is modified (see below), if needed. Calculators may only be used on the mathematics test, including ACT WorkKeys Applied Math. Sharing calculators during the test is not permitted.

What do you have to get on the CSET to pass?

To pass any of the subject-specific CSET exams, you need to score at least 220. CSET scores range from 100 to 300.

Why are calculators not allowed in exams?

One major concern is cheating. People can enter information into their calculators that may give them an unfair advantage on the exam, in essence using the calculator as a “cheat sheet”. Having a professor verify that a couple hundred students don’t have any information stored in their calculators isn’t feasible.
