Does a TIPM need to be programmed?
Even though technically the TIPM does not need to be programmed, it does need to be configured to the car. Therefore, a “Restore Vehicle Configuration” will be needed, which requires the VIN to be entered into the TIPM. The TIPM will collect the necessary vehicle configuration and VIN data from the PCM on its own.
Can you reprogram a used TIPM?
Used TIPMs normally do not require reprogramming by your dealer. If your TIPM does require reprogramming, which occurs in less than 10% of all used TIPM sales, the typical charge is around one hour shop time (approximately $100). Despite what some dealers claim, used TIPMs can easily be reprogrammed.
