Does seed paper really grow?
Plantable paper is a biodegradable eco-paper that is made with post-consumer materials (no trees harmed for this paper!) and embedded with seeds. When the paper is planted in a pot of soil, the seeds grow and the paper composts away.
Do seed cards expire?
There are expiration dates on your packages. They should be stamped “Packed for 2013” or whatever year the seeds were sold at retail. Seeds that are only a year or so old and whose packets are still unopened generally germinate very well.
What do you do with seed paper?
Our seed papers are all very easy to plant!…Let it dry out and success is severely reduced!
- Get yourself a sowing tray or pot and fill with compost – preferably peat-free!
- Place the seed paper on top and cover with a light layer of compost (the paper can be torn into smaller pieces if necessary)
- Water really well.
Can you put seed paper in a normal printer?
A few tips about printing: we recommend using an inkjet printer for plantable paper, or alternatively letterpress printing or screen printing. And it is obviously preferable not to cover the entire surface of the paper with ink, as this could damage the seeds.
Do seed bombs actually work?
Seeds require moisture to germinate. If you then let the seed bomb dry out, or even if you toss it while damp into a green space that then does not immediately get some good rain showers, the seeds will cease germination and die. So the seed bomb doesn’t work, at least not as generally advertised.
Does seed paper need soil?
You want the paper and the soil to be nicely damp but not swimming in water. The water is necessary for germination, because the seeds first have to detach themselves properly from the paper and the paper must largely perish before they sprout.
Will 20 year old seeds grow?
Do seeds go bad with time, or can you plant them no matter how old they are? The answer is, yes, seeds will eventually go bad and no longer germinate, but it can take quite a long time. There is a good chance that those old seed packets will have a high percentage of seeds that will germinate just fine.

How long does it take for seed paper to grow?
If you plant your seed paper according to the instructions, you should see sprouts within 7-10 days! The plants will grow and mature at different rates depending on the surrounding conditions but typically you will see wildflowers blooming with 8-12 weeks. What if it doesn’t grow?
How long do seeds last in the garden?
Don’t throw them out just yet! Depending on the type of seed and its quality, you may be able to store them and use them next year or the year after. In fact, some seeds, if properly stored, can be viable even after ten years.
How many years does a melon seed last?
As seeds age, though, their vigor decreases no matter how well you store them. For example, a melon seed that typically has a long shelf life of five to six years may germinate well in its fourth year but produce weak growth and little fruit. In which case, it’s time to pitch the packet and buy new seed.
How long does it take for seedlings to sprout?
In this situation, you can test the seeds a few weeks before planting time by taking several seeds, placing them on a moist paper towel, covering it with plastic and placing it in a warm spot. Check back in a week or so and if you have sprouts you’ll know the seeds are viable.
