How do you cover a wooden pelmet?
Lay the pelmet front against the polyester batting wrap. Pull the edges of the wrap over the top edge of the pelmet 2 inches and staple it in place across the top of the dust board. Staple across the top edge. Wrap the batting around the returns (the side legs) and continue stapling the batting along each return.
How do you restore a cornice board?
Center your cornice board face down on the fabric. Starting at the center, pull the fabric up over the cornice board. Turn the edge under 1/2 inch and staple it to the back of the cornice board.

Roll out the upholstery material and place it flat down on a firm surface, pattern-side down. While cornices are generally attached to ceiling edges, pelmets can be applied on the upper edge of the windows. So if you have a curtain fixture that you want to conceal, not situated on the ceiling, the surface you cover it with is called a pelmet, not a cornice.
