How does Drosera capensis capture prey?
The carnivorous sundew plant (Drosera capensis) captures prey using sticky tentacles. Mechanical stimuli and live prey induced a fast, localized tentacle-bending reaction and enzyme secretion at the place of application.
What does the Cape sundew eat?
Sundews are found in most of the United States, except some portions of the Southwest. They prefer bog habitats and soils lacking nitrogen. These plants feed on insects. Mosquitoes are abundant in the sundews’ preferred habitat and can make up a significant portion of their diet in these locations.
Do I have to feed my sundew?

Why does a Venus flytrap eat bugs?
The reason the Venus Flytrap eats bugs is because it’s difficult for the plants to get enough nitrogen from the acidic, boggy soil where it lives. So the Venus Flytrap gets its nitrogen directly from the protein in bugs rather than from the ground and through the roots.
Do sundews eat ants?
You can also feed ants or other small, live insects to your plant. Your sundew will do best if you only feed it a single bug about once a week. If you want to let it catch its own food, you can place it in an open area where bugs will be likely to land on it.
