Does a crib expire?
Although cribs don’t technically expire (unlike car seats, which have an expiration date printed on them, according to Parenting), safety regulations do change and recalls occasionally happen, as well. These updated rules prohibited the sale of any cribs with a side that drops down.
Can you use a crib that is 10 years old?
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recommends against using a secondhand crib. If you do, they recommend not using a crib that is more than 10 years old. Why are older cribs not safe?
Older cribs are less likely to meet these standards, which makes them more of a hazard. It’s also possible that the crib could have been recalled, especially in the case of drop-side models.
When does a baby crib need to be replaced?

Is it safe to use a crib that was made before 1978?
It is probably not a good idea to give your baby the same crib their grandparents slept in over 50 years ago—no matter how precious the heirloom. Cribs made before 1978 may put you at risk for a lead paint hazard. For a good rule of thumb, CPSC recommends that parents avoid using cribs that are over ten years old.
Is there an expiration date on a baby crib?
Baby cribs do not have an official expiration date from the manufacturer. However, many older cribs do not meet the latest safety standards and regulations set in place by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Cribs will become outdated and not recommended for use when regulations change and they no longer meet them.
