What is IFG IGT?
Abbreviations: IFG = impaired fasting glucose; IGT = impaired glucose tolerance; OGTT = oral glucose tolerance test.
What is IGT test?
People who have impaired glucose tolerance often exhibit zero symptoms. Often, IGT is diagnosed when doctors conduct blood tests for another reason. IGT is diagnosed using a glucose tolerance test (GTT). This test deciphers how your body is processing glucose.
What is IFG?
Impaired fasting glycaemia (IFG) is sometimes called pre-diabetes. This is when blood glucose levels in the body are raised, but are not high enough to mean that the person has diabetes. IFG means that the body isn’t able to use glucose as efficiently as it should.
Is IGT the same as prediabetes?
Prediabetes is the same as impaired glucose intolerance (IGT) or impaired fasting glucose (IFG). Some people with prediabetes may need medications to help manage their blood glucose levels.
Is IFG curable?
How is impaired fasting glycemia treated? IFG doesn’t require medical treatment, but lowering blood glucose levels can prevent or delay type 2 diabetes development.
What’s the difference between isolated IFG and IGT?
The pattern of insulin secretion also differs between IFG and IGT. People with isolated IFG have a decrease in first-phase (010 min) insulin secretory response to intravenous glucose and a reduced early-phase (first 30 min) insulin response to oral glucose.
What’s the difference between impaired fasting glucose and IGT?
Impaired fasting glucose (IFG) is a condition in which the fasting blood sugar is elevated between 110 and 125 mg/dL after an overnight fast butis not high enough to be true diabetes. Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) is a condition in which the blood sugar is elevated between 140 and 199 mg/dL after a two-hour glucose challenge.
Can you tell if you have IFG or IGT?
If you are diagnosed with either IFG or IGT, consider yourself lucky as it is an early warning, a wake up call. Ignorance of diabetes is anything but bliss. We screen for diabetes with a Glucose Insulin Tolerance Test (GITT). It gives the extra advantage of knowing your insulin and sugar levels.
What is the blood glucose level for IGT?
IGT is defined by an elevated 2-h plasma glucose concentration (≥140 and <200 mg/dl) after a 75-g glucose load on the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in the presence of an FPG concentration <126 mg/dl (29,30).
