What is screening stone?
Description. Stone screening is used as a finishing and leveling base for interlocking brick and patio slabs or to fill cracks between flat stones and slabs.
What are gravel screenings?
Screenings are a pulverized byproduct of the stone-crushing process at quarries and rock yards. The size of screenings are generally 3/8″ down to dust, and are made up of whatever type of rock it is that is being crushed – most commonly limestone or granite.
What can you do with crushed stone?
Crushed stone is used mostly as aggregate for road construction and maintenance. It is also used for making cement and lime and other chemical applications, and in agriculture. There are other uses for crushed stone, many of which are not accurately or completely reported.
What are screenings from a quarry?
At most quarries, screenings are stockpiled separately at or near the primary or secondary crushing equipment. Screenings are essentially a damp, silty, sand-sized material, usually with an estimated 5 to 10 percent moisture content, depending on the length of time the screenings have been stockpiled.
Is stone dust the same as screenings?
The machine has a screen that traps the larger material (that is, the crushed stone). The smaller material or “screenings” falls through the screen. This is what you are buying as “stone dust.” But it may go by other names, such as: Quarry dust.

What kind of screening should I use for patio stone?
Fine Shell Screening is also excellent for parking lots use all by itself. Keep in mind when using as a Base for Pavers, Patio Stone Etc. we recommend 1/2” of Diamond Sand on top of the Screening Material. We have split bin dump trucks so we can deliver both materials on the same truck saving you an extra delivery charge.
Which is the best screening material for unistone pavers?
Limestone screenings are much better for unistone pavers. They compress better and will stay that way much longer. 4″ of screenings are recommended and spend a lot of time compacting it. When you think you have packed it enough go over it again. This will ensure that your pavers do not sink in the future.
Which is better lime stone or limestone screening?
Limestone fits and compresses better, by digging in deeper is better, then relaying on the plastic edging to keep the blocks and limestone in place. Ground always shifts. 4 inch Dig 2 inches of lime stone compacted. Limestone screenings are much better for unistone pavers.
Which is the best screening material for parking lots?
Concrete Screenings has good compaction and is more permeable. Shell Fines has the best permeability but does not compact as well as Concrete Screenings or Lime Rock Screening. Fine Shell Screening is also excellent for parking lots use all by itself.
