Why doesn’t Edy’s ice cream have a seal?
They put a plastic seal around the top which ensures that no one has tampered with the ice cream inside. Edy’s Ice Cream on the other hand, has NOTHING which prevents someone from opening the carton and inserting whatever they like, be it their fingers, pills, or whatever.

How do you know if ice cream has been tampered with?
Even slightly softened the ice cream stays “tacky” and adheres to the lid until it goes back in the freezer and firms up again. This form of packaging is just as “tamper evident” as a ring around the lid or a film under the lid. It does have a safety seal.
Does homemade brand ice cream have a seal?
Many have a visible plastic seal over the lid, some have the seal under the lid but the tab of the seal is visible. If you don’t see it, pick up a pint and look under the lip of the lid (don’t open the lid, some stores look unkindly at that).

Yes! All of our ice cream containers should either have a plastic ring seal around the lid, OR a foil seal underneath the lid.

Mayfield packages ice cream in 56-ounce bricks (shown) and 48-ounce scrounds. After filling, ice cream packaged in scrounds receives a protective inner seal. The signature yellow gallons are blowmolded on-site.
