Why do you need a metal welding table?
You use it when you are working in metal fabrication with welding. A welding table is very useful because it gives the welder a stable place to work and also can provide assistance with both squaring and measuring. Many jobs require a welder to be able to square corners, do gauging, and measuring.
What kind of table do I need for welding?
Your welding table should consist of a top that is at least 3/8 inches thick and made of carbon steel, with your legs being made from angle iron, u-channel, square tubing, or pipe.
Can you touch what you are welding?
Don not rest you body, arms, or legs on the work piece (the metal being welded), especially if your clothing is wet or bare skin is exposed (and it should not be if you are dressed properly). Do not touch the electrode or metal parts of the electrode holder with skin or wet clothing.
What kind of fire extinguisher do welders need?
For most welding, a combination extinguisher (Class A, B, C) is best. ➢ For magnesium fires, it is best to use a Class D fire extinguisher or to cover the fire with sand or magnesium foundry flux.
Does stainless steel make a good welding table?

Can a welding table be connected to a welding machine?
Yes, the welding circuit is connected to a welding machine, and the welding machine is grounded, but the grounding is for its own protection. Even if connected to earth rods or a suitable metal structure, a welding table still does not serve as the ground for the welder itself.
Can a welding table be considered the ground?
In that application, the earth is the ground. A heavy metal welding table, freestanding, not connected to an earth rod, should never be considered as “the ground.” It acts as part of the welding circuit. And as a large conductive hunk of metal, serves as an important part of the welding circuit.
How to calculate the weight of weld metal required?
Table 12-1 in the Procedure Handbook of Arc Welding helps determine weld metal needs based on joint geometry. 17 welds x 4.5in each = 76.5 inches = 6.375 feet -> @ 0.129 lb/ft this yields 0.82 lbs per assembly.
What kind of steel is a welding table made out of?
The frame is made out of 2 3/8″ tubing. The table top will be a half sheet of 3/8″ steel. If it were going to be twice as large I might consider making the top out of 1/4″ to keep the weight down. It will have a 48″ long V made of 2″ x 2″ angle iron welded to one side.
