Cole-Parmer has a very comprehensive compatibility chart for many solvents (organic or otherwise). Turpentine is no good for ABS plastic, brass, EPDM, LDPE, rubber, neoprene, and a whole slew of others. I’d look at the Cole-Parmer list for comprehensive info. Mineral spirits (aka paint thinner) are no good for ABS plastic, HDPE, and EPDM.
What happens if you re-close a turpentine tin?
Assuming you follow the instructions above it should not happen. Usually tins like this will be fairly well sealed if you re-close them properly, however there will often be a bit of overspill which collects around the top of the tin from pouring out the contents.
