How long should Steri-Strips stay on?
Do not pull, tug or rub Steri-Strips. The Steri-Strips will fall off on their own within two weeks. After two weeks, gently remove any remaining Steri-Strips.
How long do wound closure strips stay on?
Answer: Steri-Strip skin closures are usually worn until they fall off or the healthcare provider removes them. This usually occurs within 5 to 7 days for the standard reinforced Steri-Strip skin closures. Wear time may vary depending on area of the body, skin type, degree of friction to that area, etc.

- Stick the steri-strip to one side of the wound.

- Continue this until you’ve completely closed the wound.
Do you remove wound closure strips?
Once the steri-strips are wet the adhesive will come unstuck. If the steri-strips do not fall off by themselves, gently pull them to remove them. Do not get your steri-strips wet (until they are due to come off). Do not remove steri-strips to look at the wound.
What do I do if my steri-strips come off too soon?
If the Steri-strips do fall off before your post-op appointment, you can cover your incision with a band-aid or come to the clinic for new steri-strips.
Should you put a bandage over steri-strips?
Once steri-strips fall off, or are removed, the wound will need to be cleansed with a gentle soap and water followed by a thin application of Vaseline or Aquaphor over the wound. Repeat these steps daily until sutures are removed. A bandage may be applied if located in an area of friction.

– Less than 3/16″ deep probably okay to use tape (strips). – Above 1/4″ probably should be sutures. At 3/16″ it is iffy, tape or suture. With strips consider using tincture of benzoin on the skin next to but not into the wound.
